Cause of Death Revealed for Celebrity Hairstylist Jesus Guerrero
The cause of death for celebrity hairstylist Jesus Guerrero has officially been confirmed.
Guerrero, 34, passed away in February. He was widely known for his work with A-list clients such as Kylie Jenner, Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Rosalía, Jessica Alba, Demi Moore, and Jennifer Lopez.
According to a report from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Guerrero died from severe pneumonia. The report also noted that he had a weakened immune system and had developed a lung infection in addition to Cryptococcosis—an illness caused by inhaling spores from the yeast-like fungus Cryptococcus neoformans.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains that Cryptococcus is commonly found in environments such as soil, bird droppings, rotting wood, and certain trees.
Guerrero’s death was first made public through a GoFundMe page launched by his family.
“My name is Gris, Jesus’s younger sister,” the fundraiser’s message began. “It is with a heavy heart that we let the world know that Jesus Guerrero has gone to heaven. He is a son, a brother, an uncle, an artist, a friend, and so much more.”
Gris shared insights into her brother’s journey, writing: “Born and raised in Houston, TX to immigrant parents, Jesus learned the value of hard work and dreamed of taking his talent to the top.”
She added that his passing was sudden and unexpected, and the family was working to return his remains to Houston. The GoFundMe campaign exceeded its $60,000 goal, ultimately raising over $96,000 before being closed.
Following the news of his passing, tributes poured in on social media.
Ariel Tejada, Kylie Jenner’s makeup artist, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram featuring photos with Guerrero. “2•22, one of God’s most beautiful angels has just opened his wings and flown to join Him in heaven, and watch over me,” Tejada wrote. “Last night I experienced the most painful, breath-taking pain I have ever felt when I found out you left us @jesushair.”
Celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin also paid tribute, sharing a group photo on her Instagram Story with the caption: “Our hearts will never be the same.”
